Fractional CTO

Senior technology leadership, without the full-time hire.

Growing businesses need someone who owns technology decisions, but not always a full-time CTO. We take that role part-time: setting direction, choosing systems, mapping processes, keeping security in hand and making sure your software spend matches what you actually use.

Sound familiar?

If any of these are true, this is where we can help.

  • Software decisions get made by whoever shouts loudest or whichever vendor called last.
  • Nobody really owns security, and we'd struggle to answer a customer's security questionnaire.
  • We pay for three tools that do the same thing and still run the business on spreadsheets.
  • A big systems project has stalled and nobody can say why.
  • Our systems are hosted by a supplier and we're not sure we could get our data back.

What we do

Technology strategy

A clear plan for your systems over the next one to three years, tied to where the business is going and what it can afford.

Systems selection

Shortlists and side-by-side assessments of platforms against how your business actually works, so you choose on fit rather than sales pitch.

Process mapping

BPMN swim-lane maps of how work really flows, used to find bottlenecks and to brief vendors and developers clearly.

Subscription audits

What you pay for versus what you use, across every tool and licence tier, with a plan to cut waste or replace what doesn't earn its keep.

Security reviews

A practical review of access, secrets, backups and supplier risk, with the fixes ranked by how much risk they remove.

Migrations into your own tenant

Systems and data moved into your own Microsoft and Azure tenant, so you hold the keys and the accounts.

How we work

We start with a short review: your systems, your suppliers, what you pay, what you use, and where the risks are. That turns into a prioritised plan with costs and owners, agreed with the leadership team.

From there we work on a monthly retainer, taking the technology seat at the table. We run systems selections, brief and manage vendors, oversee projects and keep security moving forward, reporting progress in plain language.

Because we also build integrations, data platforms and software, recommendations don’t stop at a slide deck. We can carry them through to working systems.

Keeping your software spend honest

Many businesses pay for features they never use, seats nobody logs into and tools that overlap. A subscription audit lists every tool, compares the tier you pay for with what your team actually relies on, and finds where a smaller plan, a consolidation or a targeted replacement would save money. Our guide to auditing your software subscriptions walks through the method. For an example of systems selection in practice, see how we helped a metal recycler choose the right yard platform.
